UCCF's Theology Network exists to see all theology students in British universities discipled to think, speak and live faithfully as followers of Christ.
Why
Theology can be one of the most rewarding and faith-building subjects to study at university. Properly oriented, theology is nothing less that the intentional pursuit to know God so that we might enjoy deeper communion with Him. Anselm famously described it as 'faith seeking understanding.' Theological study and faith in Christ should be mutually enriching. After all, good theology has knowing, loving, and serving God at its heart.
Sadly, theology in British universities is so often missing this orienting vision of love and knowledge of God, is disconnected from faith in Christ, and is taught in a fragmented way. Students can face some serious challenges to their faith, and even when they don't it is difficult to make the step of integrating what they study with their discipleship.
However, we believe that given the opportunities, resources, and support, theology students can have a big impact for the sake of the gospel on their departments, coursemates, churches and the world. So, Theology Network seeks to resource theology students and connect them with academics, and church leaders with the desire to see God glorified in and through academic theology.
How
Theology Network invests in individual students to help them engage well as Christians with academic theology, apply it to their lives and service in the Church, and reach their coursemates through the unique points of connection that Theology and Religious Studies has with the gospel.
Alongside 1-2-1s and personal practical support, we do this through...
Resources on the website. The website has a growing collection of articles, audio and videos aimed at equipping students to engage their faith well with their studies.
Events throughout the year. Theology Network gathers students at key events throughout the year, such as Word Alive and Forum, for teaching and fellowship with other students from across Britain.
Gathering students in hubs. A key way that students are supported and equipped is through student-led hubs in their own university departments. These are best placed to engage with the specific challenges of their course and mobilise them to reach their coursemates with the gospel.
Values
Our ministry is shaped by UCCF's wider mission, vision and values. All staff and volunteers for Theology Network subscribe to UCCF's Doctrinal Basis as the basis for our unity, foundation of our mission and content of our message.
